![]() ![]() ![]() Luke 1:39-45, Mary Visits Elizabethģ9 In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country,Ĥ0 where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.Ĥ1 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leaped in her womb. The virgin's name was Mary.Ģ8 And he came to her and said, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you."Ģ9 But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.ģ0 The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.ģ1 And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.ģ2 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David.ģ3 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."ģ4 Mary said to the angel, "How can this be since I am a virgin?"ģ5 The angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you therefore, the child to be born will be holy he will be called Son of God.ģ6 And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son and this is the sixth month for her who is said to be barren.ģ7 For nothing will be impossible with God."ģ8 Then Mary said, "Here am I, the servant of the Lord let it be with me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her. There is no one person who ever had such a close relationship with Jesus in all of these stages of his life and that of his Church.Ģ6 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,Ģ7 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. She continues to be a believer after his death and is present when Jesus' promise of his Spirit is given at Pentecost. Mary, the mother of the Lord, is primarily a believer who has been with Jesus from his conception, to his birth, his infancy, childhood, and manhood. This Gospel is a Christ-centered proclamation to Christian believers of all times. The Gospel of Luke and Acts give us the essential framework for the beginning of an authentic study of Mary.
